Head Tennis Pro

tviator@canebrakecountryclub.com

Teddy Viator’s tennis career started at the age of six when he began teaching himself how to play tennis with an old wooden racket on a rundown tennis court in Jeanerette, LA. By the age of ten, Teddy was competing in and winning junior tennis tournaments all over the country and was ranked the number one Junior Player in Louisiana for three consecutive years. Teddy went on to play for LSU where he was named First Team All SEC. In 1984, Teddy earned LSU’s esteemed “Male Athlete of the Year.”

After LSU, Teddy moved on to become USM’s Head Tennis Coach. For 24 seasons, Teddy’s teams were consistently ranked in the top 75 nationally, and even competed in the NCAA Championships. He produced over 25 All Conference Players during his time at Southern Miss. In addition to college athletes, Teddy has also coached junior high and high school students that placed in numerous team and individual state championships. In 2017, Teddy was named “Pro of the Year” by Mississippi Tennis. Teddy also continues to play competitively at the age of 60 with a current rating of 5.0, and he regularly competes all the way to state and sectional championships. We are thrilled to have Teddy at Canebrake Country Club as we gear up to open our new Flagship Tennis and Pickleball Complex.
