12 Months Dues for Free!

Over the years, a trend for members to pay their dues in advance has emerged.

Many members prefer to pay once for the entire year. This year, Canebrake Country Club is encouraging more members to participate and pay annually. As an incentive Canebrake will reimburse one lucky member the cost of their annual dues. Every member that pays their 2012 dues in advance will be entered into a drawing to have their 12 months dues for FREE.

The drawing will take place Saturday, January 7th at 12:00pm in the Proshop. In order to be eligible, member must pay their 2012 dues by December 31st, 2011. Member need not be present to win.

Friday, September 9th

For our Friday, September 9th meeting, we will be exploring The Paris Wife by Paula McLain.  Here the story of Hadley Richardson Hemingway emerging from the formidable shadow cast by her famous husband. Though doomed, the Hemingway marriage had its giddy high points as  Hadley and Ernest traveled in heady company during a gin-soaked and jazz-infused time, and readers are treated to intimate glimpses of many of the literary giants of the era, including Gertrude Stein, Ezra Pound, James Joyce, and F. Scott Fitzgerald.  Much more than a woman-behind-the-man homage, this beautifully crafted tale is an unsentimental tribute to a woman who acted with grace and strength as her marriage crumbled. --Margaret Flanagan

Come join us on Friday, September 9th at 11:00am
for discussion and stay for lunch at 12:00pm.

Advance Notice:  For our Friday, October 14th meeting, we will be reading The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga.  Set in a raw and unromanticized India, this first -person confession of a murderer is compelling for its subject matter as it is for the voice of its narrator amoral, cynical, unrepentant, yet deeply endearing.

The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga

Join us on Friday, October 14th at 11:00 AM as we discuss The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga.  Set in a raw and un-romanticized India, this first-person confession of a murderer is compelling for its subject matter as it is for the voice of its narrator amoral, cynical, unrepentant, yet deeply endearing.

Advance Notice:  For our Friday, November 11th meeting, we will be reading The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society by May Ann Shaffer. The letters comprising this novel begin in 1946, with letters of war stories from Guernsey inhabitants while Guernsey was under German occupation.  The Guernsey inhabitants are enchanting and the small acts of heroism so vivid and moving that the readers will find inspiration for their life.
